Job Description: Theater Lighting Technician

Position Summary:
The Theater Lighting Technician is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation and operation of lighting systems in a theater production environment. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of theater lighting equipment, including fixtures, control systems, and rigging techniques. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the production team to create and execute lighting designs that enhance the overall artistic vision of the performance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and operate lighting equipment for theatrical productions, including but not limited to stage lighting fixtures, dimmers, control consoles, and special effects machinery.
- Collaborate with the lighting designer and other production team members to develop and implement lighting plans that align with the artistic vision of the performance.
- Set up lighting systems, including rigging and focusing lights, adjusting angles, and positioning fixtures to achieve desired effects.
- Program and operate lighting control consoles during rehearsals and performances, ensuring accurate cue execution and smooth transitions.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to lighting equipment, and perform routine maintenance and repair tasks as required.
- Collaborate with other technical departments to ensure proper integration of lighting with sound, set design, and other production elements.
- Assist in the load-in and load-out of lighting equipment for each production, ensuring safe handling and storage of all materials.
- Stay updated on advancements in theater lighting technology and techniques, and make recommendations for equipment upgrades or additions when necessary.
- Comply with all safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all involved in the production.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of theatrical lighting equipment, including fixtures, control consoles, dimming systems, and special effects machinery.
- Proficiency in operating lighting control consoles, such as ETC Ion, Eos, or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of lighting design principles, including color theory, beam angles, and lighting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with various lighting software programs, such as Vectorworks or AutoCAD, is preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to quickly identify and resolve technical issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with the production team and other technical departments.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as rigging and lifting heavy lighting equipment.
